Services & Techniques

Back-In-Action Chiropractic utilizes a multimodal therapy approach in order to achieve the best results for our patients.  This approach comes highly recommended by the Canadian Chiropractic Practice Initiative and includes:

Spinal Adjustments / Manipulations

The goal of spinal manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile (restricted in movement) due to a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period. In either case, injured tissues will undergo both physical and chemical changes that can result in inflammation, pain, and diminished mobility. Manipulation, or adjustment, of the affected joint and tissues restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness and allowing tissues to heal.

Extremity Adjustments / Manipulations

It’s important to remember that chiropractic adjustments are not only for the spine but can be performed on any joint in the body, including the jaw, ribs, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, and feet. The stability of the spine is dependent on the stability of the extremities and vice versa, which makes the ability to properly diagnose and treat the extremities extremely important.  Dr. Bakken has undergone extensive training in extremity diagnosis and adjusting which allows him to more effectively assist patients with complex and recurring problems.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft tissue therapy is utilized by Dr. Bakken in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments in order to provide relief from muscle pain and tightness, and to speed the recovery of tissues from injury.  Dr. Bakken provides custom tailored muscular therapy designed to treat a patient’s specific condition and injury.

Corrective Exercises

Dr. Bakken evaluates patients by using functional movement assessments. This enables him to prescribe stretches and exercises that are designed specifically for their condition and skill level.  As treatment progresses the exercises will change and progress, allowing for ongoing improvement.  At the end of the treatment the patient will have a regimen of stretches and exercises they can continue to utilize in order to maintain their functional improvements and prevent further injury.

Kinesiotaping

Dr. Bakken has received extensive training in the theory and application of Kinesio Tape for both injury treatment and performance enhancement.  Kinesio Tape aids with pain relief by interfering with pain signals that are directed to the brain, essentially turning down the pain “volume” that your body hears. The tape has a lifting effect on the skin and the tissues underneath, allowing for improved circulation and decreased inflammation. Kinesio Taping has also been shown to slow down muscle fatigue which is important in rehabbing an injury and maintaining performance during a critical event.
